Kathryn Merrill

Kathryn's artwork is inspired by her childhood on her grandparent's ranch near Winnett, Montana. Her focus is on the western lifestyle and ranch horses, and she spends time with and photographs ranching families to capture their day-to-day activities. Kathryn also enjoys riding and showing her American Quarter Horses, which helps improve her knowledge of her subject and ability to portray them realistically. She works with colored pencil, pastel pencil, graphite, and oil, and her art education has been informal through mentors, teachers, books, museums, and other resources. Kathryn wants to share the story of the American Ranching Family, which embodies the values and character on which the United States was founded.
