Museum Purchase Collection

The Museum Purchase Collection was instituted in 1981 in conjunction with the first Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Western Art Show and Sale.  The purpose of the program was to create a venue through which patrons select a contemporary work of art and donate it to the permanent collection of the CFD™ Old West Museum.

From 1981 to the present, each year has brought one or more new pieces into the museum collection.  Patrons are free to choose the piece that they wish to contribute.  As a result several of the most popular artists from the Western Art Show and Sale have multiple works of art on display.  Many of the donations are made not only in friendship to the museum but also as memorials to friends and family.”

The Museum Purchase Collection goes on display twice a year and can be seen through February 2013.
